Senja—Cashew Community Club, Sunday, April 15, 2012 — Zhenghua CSC got off to a winning start with a comfortable 58-22 win over Bukit Timah Phantom in the Community Games basketball tournament.
Ong Yi Sheng (#4) of Zhenghua had a game-high 13 points, including three 3-pointers. See Cheng Yun (#7) of Bukit Timah scored 12 of his team’s 22 points as they struggled to put points on the board against a dominant Zhenghua lineup.
“We executed our training plan overall and the team’s effort was good,” said Zhenghua captain Herman Tan.
“The team’s core group of five to six players have been together for 10 years. We started training three months ago for this,” added Herman.
The Zhenghua team trains twice a week at the open court near Block 478, Segar Road, in Bukit Panjang.
Yi Sheng dropped eight points for Zhenghua, including two 3-pointers, in an opening quarter where they held Bukit Timah to just two.
Bukit Timah found their rhythm in the second quarter, with See Cheng Yun scoring eight of their nine points. Zhenghua, though, still manage to outscore them 12-9 with scoring from five different players to take a 19-point 30-11 lead into the break.
The third quarter was a blowout as Zhenghua racked up 21 more points while holding Bukit Timah to just three. By the start of the fourth quarter, Zhenghua were 37 points ahead and the contest was effectively over.
The are five teams — Cashew, Ulu Pandan, Bukit Timah Phantom, Zhenghua CSC and Bukit Panjang CSC — playing in the Holland-Bukit Timah Cluster. All teams will play each other in a round-robin format, and the top two teams will go on to play in the Singapore National Games scheduled for September 1st to 9th.
