A Div Water Polo: Raffles outscore Hwa Chong 4-2 in penalty shootout to win title

CCAB, Wednesday, April 11, 2012 — Raffles Institution beat Hwa Chong Institution 4-2 in a penalty shootout to win the National A Division Water Polo Championship.

Daryl Cheng (RI #10) scored the opening goal of the game in the second quarter and there was no further scoring in the third quarter. The title looked like it was heading back to Raffles when Min Gao (#3) scored the equaliser for Hwa Chong in the fourth quarter.

Ernest Aw (HCI #10) then scored the go-ahead goal for his team and HCI looked on course for a successful title defence when Neoh Seh Woon (#6) scored the equaliser with just three seconds remaining in overtime to send the game into a penalty shootout.

In the penalty shootout, Adriel Ng (#9) and Byran See (#12) of HCI saw their efforts saved to allow Raffles to claim the title they last won in 2010.

Raffles have now won five A Division title in the last six years.
