PESEB, Friday, April 27, 2012 — Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) avoided a tricky semi-final clash with defending champions Nanyang JC when they beat Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) 2-0 (25-12, 25-18) to finish on top of Group Y in Round Two of the A Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship.
HCI found themselves outplayed in the first set as ACJC raced off to establish a comfortable lead. ACJC continued widening the gap and were eventually leading 20-10. ACJC constantly troubled HCI’s defenses while stemming HCI’s attacks. They were soon leading 24-12 after a formation error from HCI.
HCI did not manage to correct their position error and were faulted yet again in the next rally, consequently giving the last point to ACJC.
HCI put up a stronger fight in the second set as they kept close to ACJC point for point. ACJC managed to pull ahead to lead 10-5 but defensive lapses saw them lose their momentum. HCI came raring back in and were soon trailing by just one point at 13-12.
They eventually levelled the score 14-14 and yet again at the 15-15 mark.
ACJC managed to shake off their bad form and quickly took the lead once again. They pulled ahead to eventually lead 24-18. They then sealed the last point after Jia Le (ACJC #17) scored from the outside.
