Queensway Secondary, Sunday, May 6, 2012 — Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru CSC beat Queenstown CSC Team A 3-2 to finish on top of Group A in the Tanjong Pagar cluster for the Community Games Badminton tournament.
Both teams had recorded one win each prior to their meeting and Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru took the upperhand when Chua Kok Leong swept aside Queenstown CSC’s Lee Jun Jian in straight games (21-2, 21-4) in the Men’s singles.
Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru subsequently won the Mixed Doubles in straight games (21-3, 21-2) as well. Queenstown’s Jumat and Lai Poh Kheng put up a spirited effort but ultimately could not overcome the duo of Steven Soh and Luo Xiao Ying.
Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru were assured of the win when they were awarded a walkover in the Men’s Doubles Masters. However, Queenstown continued the match in good spirits and got their first win in the match when Chiam Ling Lee beat Alverina Lee 2-0 (21-7, 21-4) in the Women’s Singles.
Queenstown were subsequently awarded a walkover in the Men’s Doubles category but had to settle for second in the group with Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru progressing through.
