Singapore Basketball Centre, Friday, May 11, 2012 — This time, the final proved a step too far for the Dunman High boys after their second round heroics against Raffles Institution.
Anderson Junior College overwhelmed Dunman High 65-55 on the back of good shot selections and well executed fast breaks to qualify for the National A Division Boys Basketball Championship final.
Anderson’s forward Yee Jian (#7) was a constant thorn in Dunman High’s defense, scoring from long range as well as explosive bursts to the basket. He led all scores with a game-high 19 points and downed 9 consecutive points for his team at one stage.
He was ably assisted by his point guard Chai Sim (#15), who controlled the tempo of the game superbly for his team. Though Chai Sim was not big in points production, his strong drives to the basket and astute passing was responsible for many of his team’s points.
Credit for the win must also go to the Anderson defence, which shackled Dunman High’s key player Isaac Low (#7) well throughout the game. Though Isaac also finished with a game-high 19 points, he was unable to spark his team to challenge for the win effectively.
Anderson had made their intentions clear from the start when they established a 14-10 lead by the end of the first quarter and a 36-24 lead by the end of the first half. They continued with their dominance to post a 14-point 49-35 lead by the end of the third quarter.
The game was not all one-sided though as Dunman High embarked on a furious comeback in the fourth. Yet their efforts to close the gap was negated by the excellent finishing of Yee Jian.
Anderson Junior College will go on to face powerhouse Hwa Chong Institution in the final on Friday, May 18th, at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall. Hwa Chong Institution cruised to a 81-51 win over Raffles Institution in the other semi-final.
