Clementi Sports Hall, Friday, June 29, 2012 — School of Science and Technology look set to advance to the second round of the West Zone C Division Basketball Championship after beating Commonwealth 53-20. The win puts them in top spot in Group E.
School of Science and Technology’s Captain Yi Chieh (#11) was top scorer of the match with 16 points while Elkan Wee (#14) put in nine for Commonwealth.
Nifty interceptions helped the School of Science and Technology surge ahead in the first quarter, as they outscored their opponents 10-1.
A 15-7 second quarter saw School of Science and Technology lead 25-8 at half time.
In the third quarter, the Commonwealth coach decided to swap the starting five for an entirely new one. The fresh legs seemed to be a turning point for Commonwealth, who found their confidence in the last quarter as they scored as many points as the other three quarters combined. However, it was a little too late as the School of Science and Technology held on to a comfortable lead to win.
School of Science and Technology Captain Yi Chieh thinks his team can only get better.
He said: “I think we managed to coordinate well today. The team has improved a lot over the past few games.”
They go up against Teck Whye Secondary next on Tuesday, July 3rd. Commonwealth will seek to rethink their team’s strategy when they play Bukit Batok Secondary on the same day.
