F1 Pit Building, Sunday, August 19, 2012 — Javier Chng won all his sessions in Round 2 of the Singapore Karting Championship to notch up maximum points.
Javier is now 20 points clear of his nearest challenger, Josh Lee, who finished behind him in second.
“I will try my best to win the title and not be complacent. I would like to thank my team and the mechanics for helping me reach my goals,” Javier was quoted as saying on www.skc.sg.
The Singapore Formula One Pit Building and Pit Lane were transformed into a mini race track. There wasn’t a sell-out crowd but those that showed up were definitely hard core fans.
The race featured two long straightaways which gave the late brakers overtaking opportunities and there were a couple incidents at the hairpin nearest the pit lane entrance.
“It is a great feeling to race karts on the F1 track and I always love the challenge of driving on a new track, especially longer circuits,” said Javier.
“During the race, I just continuously focus on driving as fast as I can; looking far ahead to the next turn. I constantly try to explore new methods of driving that can be best applied to achieve better timings.”
The weather was hot and the sky threatened to open up with some distant thunder. A wet race would have made for some interesting but miserable racing so luckily the rain did not make an appearance.
There was one incident along the back straight. Jamie Teo (#328) struck the barriers and ended up out of the kart and on the track. He was able to get up and off the track without any assistance. The race was red flagged and Jamie made his way back to the pits.
With the hot temperature and track, the drivers that pushed really hard found themselves losing grip towards the end but that only meant more exciting racing for those on hand.
Round 3 is scheduled for September 29th and 30th at Kartright Speedway.
