Nanyang Polytechnic, Friday, September 14, 2012 — Swimmer Quah Zheng Wen, 15, of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) won the Overall Best School Boy Award at the National School Games closing ceremony.
Quah Zheng Wen won one bronze, one silver and one gold medal at the 2011 South-east Asian (SEA) Games.
In May 2012, Quah Zheng Wen won the Sportsboy of the Year award.
At the SEA Swimming Championships in June 2012, Zheng Wen won three golds, and in doing so, he set a new national record in the 200m individual medley (IM).
Zheng Wen then went on to represent Singapore at the 2012 London Olympics in the 400m IM and 200m backstroke.
Zheng Wen was selected from among the 21 Best Boy award winners. The award is given to student athletes with exceptional sporting achievements and exemplary conduct on and off the field.
More than 650 students from 100 schools also won National Schools Colours Awards at the ceremony. 165 of these students received their awards for representing Singapore Schools at the ASEAN Schools Games.
Another 1,317 students were also presented with the Zone Colours Award at the ceremony.
The National and Zone Schools Colours Awards are given to student athletes who have represented the Singapore Schools Team and their achievements in their respective sports.
50,000 students took part in the National School Games at the primary, secondary and junior college level this year.
