Singapore Basketball Centre, Sunday, October 7, 2012 — Min Yi Basketball Club beat Singapore Armed Forces Sports Association (SAFSA) 75-66 to win their first ever Singapore National Basketball League (SNBL) title.
Min Yi put together a 10-1 win-loss record on their way to the championship title. Their sole loss was a 67-78 reverse against defending champions Siglap Basketball Club.
Min Yi, who had also beaten SAFSA 61-60 in the preliminary rounds, beat Eng Tat Hornets by one point (77-76) to make the final.
SAFSA had seen off Siglap 75-73 in the other semi-final and finished the season with a 9-3 record.
Min Yi led by nine points (29-20) after the first quarter but SAFSA outscored them 16-15 in the second to trail by eight (36-44) at half time.
Min Yi put 20 points on the board in the third quarter while SAFSA managed only 14 to lead by 14 (64-50) heading into the final quarter.
Despite getting outscored 16-11 in the final quarter, Min Yi had enough of a lead to come home 75-66 winners.
Siglap beat Eng Tat Hornets 66-53 to finish third after leading 27-21 at half time.
Wong Wei Long of Min Yi was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament while Koh Meng Koon of Home United Basketball Club was the preliminary round top scorer with 147 points.
The top 3-point shooter in the preliminary round was Lim Min Jie, also of Min Yi, who made 24 3-pointers.
