It looks like Singaporeans don’t sleep much, according to our survey as of February 12th, 2013. The poll was started in January, 2009.
We’ve been doing this survey on Red Sports since January, 2009.
Singaporeans don’t seem to sleep much.
55% of respondents for our survey sleep between 4 to 6 hours a night.
Only a happy 4% get 9 hours a night.
Did you know that a lack of sleep can affect your grades?
According to an article published by the Society for Research in Child Development, “students whose schedules include more hours of sleep per night tend to have higher grades than their peers who sleep for fewer hours”.
The article went on to say: “When students are sleep deprived, they experience greater fatigue at school the following day, and greater fatigue can make learning more difficult.
“Furthermore, sleep is a key restorative process during which consolidation of learning takes place. Thus, additional study time, when it comes at the expense of sleep time, may not benefit achievement as much as students think.”
For athletes, there are also benefits in getting enough sleep.
An article on sleep published on health.com stated: “A Stanford University study found that college football players who tried to sleep at least 10 hours a night for seven to eight weeks improved their average sprint time and had less daytime fatigue and more stamina.”
Food for thought.
