Into its 38th year, the Singapore Youth Award (SYA) is the highest national youth accolade that recognises Singaporeans who have excelled in their fields of endeavour and contributed significantly to the community. The SYA has recognised numerous youths across a broad range of achievements and community pursuits.
The National Youth Council (NYC) is inviting nominations for this year’s Award until February 28, 2013, which can be made online at www.sya.sg.
The SYA Roll of Honour has seen over 41 teams and 133 individuals being conferred the highest youth accolade in Singapore. Recipients of the most recent 2012 edition of the SYA are youth leader Aaron Maniam, Paralympian sailor Jovin Tan and research scientist Dr Yeo Sze Ling.
“Our future hinges on our youth, whom I’m proud to say have been increasingly expanding their worldwide footprint and touching the lives of many,” said Mr Edward D’Silva, Chairman of the SYA Panel.
“With this award, we hope to commemorate all Singapore youth who have demonstrated excellence and inspired others through their fortitude and leadership in each of their own fields. Let the award be a beacon for all and let us change the world.”
Several former SYA recipients continue to make their mark. 2010 SYA awardee Dr Loh Yuin Han was featured on the 2012 TR35@Singapore list which recognises the top 35 innovators under 35 from Southeast Asia, India, Australia, and New Zealand. He was also the first Singaporean citizen to be elected to the prestigious global World Technology Network.
Filmmaker Royston Tan, another 2010 SYA recipient, was the first Singaporean film maker to win the top Busan Award at the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Project Market in October 2012 and he continues to touch the lives of global citizens through his art of storytelling.
