Chua Chu Kang Stadium, Thursday, April 11, 2013 — Celeste Goh of Singapore Sports School took home the gold with a time of 63.16 seconds in the C Division 400m at the 54th National Schools Track and Field Championships.
This is a massive improvement on last year’s performance, when she had run 66.44s.
Audrey Sarah Tan of CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School and Addeen Idzni Bte Imran of Singapore Sports School rounded off the podium, clocking timings of 65.96 and 66.31 respectively.
Audrey had taken the lead for the first half of the race, until Celeste kicked at the final 150m, leaving the rest in the dust. More than two seconds separated her from the nearest competitor.
“I managed to clock a personal best today, so I’m quite happy!” Celeste beamed.
“My next race is the 800m, of which I’m hoping for a podium finish!” Celeste won the 800m bronze last year with a time of 2 minutes 35 seconds.
Addeen was pleased with her performance as well. “I managed to clock a personal best! Since this is my first year in track, I’m just happy with this decent time and position.”
Both Sports School girls will move up to the B Division next year.
The top three will part ways, with Audrey racing in the 100m, and Addeen in the 1,500m.
