Singapore Sports School, Wednesday, April 24, 2013 — Samantha Yeo of Raffles Girls’ School finished first and set a new meet record with a timing of 1 minute 11.90 seconds in the Girls’ B Division 100 metres breaststroke final at the 54th National Schools Swimming Championships. The 16-year-old broke her own meet record of 1:12.16, set last year.
Samantha, a member of the last two Southeast Asian Games squads for Singapore, took the race out in dominant fashion, swimming the first 50m in 33.55 seconds, her quickest-ever first 50m split. She went on to finish 5.20 seconds ahead of Natasha-Lin Low of Methodist Girls’ School, who placed second in 1:17.10.
Samantha commented: “It feels great to break the record. I was actually gunning to rewrite my personal best of 1:11.87. I’m satisfied nonetheless.”
Jeremia Christy Suriadi of Singapore Sports School bagged the bronze medal in 1:17.42.
