PESEB, Evans Road, Thursday, July 18, 2013 – Regent Secondary beat Peirce Secondary 38–17 to register their first win in the bowl section of the National C Division Rugby Championship.
Regent led 12–10 at half time as both sides traded tries.
In the second half, Regent pulled away with four more tries, the highlight being Al-fian’s (#12) scorching run from the middle of the park. Picking up the ball from the middle of the field, Al-fian was first headed towards the left flank. Finding his way blocked, he then made his way back into the middle before going over for a try near the posts. He then picked himself up to convert his own try.
Al-fian converted four of six attempts as teammates Dylan Ho (#7), Irvin Goh (#10), Daniel Ryan (#9), Jolo Mendoza (#5) and Sophian Nur Hilmi bin Rhaimie (#17) added to the Regent tally.
Peirce matched Regent try for try in the first half through Chin Kian Hwee (#25) and Ben Ong (#19), but both were not converted. Magnan Tan (#15) added another try for Peirce in the second half which was converted by Syafiq (#10) but that was to be the end of their scoring for the day.
This was Regent’s first win in Group B after they were beaten 26–19 by Montfort Secondary in their opening game. Regent will come up against Junyuan Secondary in their next game while for Peirce, this was their opening game, and they next play Montfort.
