Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Friday, January 17, 2013 – Nanyang Technological University (NTU) defeated Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) 62–32 in the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Netball Championship.
Both teams are through to the semi-finals, having previously defeated Singapore Management University (SMU) in their respective opening matches.
NTU stifled NP’s offence in the first half to open up an 18-point lead, which they maintained for the rest of the game as they cruised to victory.
Rima Yanti (Goal Attack) and Ranjani (Goal Shooter) of NTU displayed great chemistry in their second passes and quick rotation as they successfully potted their shots without much difficulty. NTU pulled ahead to lead 33–15 by half time.
Despite the 24-point gap heading into the final quarter, both teams continued to put up a good fight but NTU showed a greater control of the game which limited NP’s chances.
“We started off well in the first half, and that helped us to build momentum.” said NTU captain Xin Yi. “With the constant support and encouragement from the people by the sidelines, we managed to reach our goals today which was very good.”
Commenting on her opponents’ play, she added: “NP put up a good fight today. They were solid on their attacks and their shooters were consistent.”
“We settled down much later in the game, especially in the 3rd quarter when we started to play to our own pace to get past NTU,” said NP Captain Trina Young.
