Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Friday, January 17, 2013 – Defending champions National University of Singapore (NUS) defeated Temasek Polytechnic (TP) 85–28 to secure a spot in the final of the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Netball Championship.

NUS executed their turnovers well with their swift and accurate passes, giving them a strong 18–9 lead after the opening quarter.

The second quarter saw tighter defence by the TP goal defenders, creating more opportunities for turnovers to be converted into shots. This contributed to the 10 goals TP scored, one better than the previous quarter.

NUS, on their side, capitalised on the rebounds and converted their turnovers as well and led 35–19 at half-time.

As the third quarter commenced, NUS kept their attacks going and scored eight consecutive goals. They outscored TP 18–2 in the third quarter to lead by a comfortable 61–21.

Keen to narrow the gap, TP continued to give their opponents a strong fight till the final whistle. Despite their valiant efforts, they could not overhaul the points deficit, leaving NUS to seal the game 85–28 winners.

Cheryl Lee, captain of NUS, said, “We were rather unsteady in the first two quarters, but we settled down towards the second half and the flow was better.”

The three teams in each of the two groups face each other in a round-robin format, with the top two teams in the group progressing to the semi-finals.

Despite the loss to NUS, TP still advance through to the semi-finals. In their opening game, TP emerged with a 36–34 win over Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP).

NUS will face the runners-up of Group A, Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP), in the semi-finals. The winner of Group A, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will face TP in the other semi-finals.
