Republic Polytechnic, Wednesday, January 22, 2014 — Nanyang Technological University (NTU) secured a comfortable 4–0 win over Institute of Technical Education (ITE) to claim the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Floorball Championship title.
The first shot on target came from Nurhaishireen Binte Mohamad Rahim (NTU #10) in the first period, but goalkeeper Chen Jing Yi (ITE #12) managed to punch it away to safety. NTU took a couple more shots in the first period, mostly from Stella Lin Xiao Qian (NTU #9) and Nurhaishireen Binte Mohamad Rahim (NTU #10), before the first goal of the game surfaced. NTU captain Cally Lim Li Hua (NTU #29) showed great composure to launch a powerful strike into the net, putting her team up one goal.
On the other hand, ITE were trying to get the ball beyond the half court but just could not get past the stubborn defence of NTU. At the end of the first period, NTU were leading by a mere goal.
In the second period, NTU were evidently more aggressive in terms of their ball handling and refused to give in to ITE’s defensive efforts, while ITE were struggling to keep possession of the ball.
NTU built on their one-goal lead, ending the second period with three more goals from Siti Nur’aini Abdul Rashid (NTU #23), Nurhaishireen Binte Mohamad Rahim (NTU #10) from the half-court mark, and from Nicole Lim (NTU #17).
Seeing that the win was NTU’s at this rate, ITE stepped up their game in the final period and attempted a few more good shots, but simply could not get past the NTU goalkeeper despite their surge in aggressiveness offensively.
NTU goalkeeper, Fariza Begum Binte Mohamed Zabir (#99), saved practically every shot. She played a pivotal role in NTU’s win over ITE and managed to keep a clean sheet, as her team wrapped up the game 4–0 winners.
