Anglican High School, Monday, February 8, 2014 — Dunman Secondary (DMN) dominated from the start to defeat Tampines Secondary (TPS) 81–6 in the second round of the East Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Benedict Ong (DMN #8) led his team with 15 points, while Herman Ong (TPS #8) scored four points for his team.

Dunman put up a dominating first quarter, with Darren Ng (#6) putting in eight points. Their good team chemistry allowed them to capitalize on fast breaks. They were making swift passes to reach the other side of the court, leaving their defenders behind to score points.

Tampines marked their first two points in the second quarter, when a player dished the ball out to Bryan Lim (#13), who scored effortlessly in the paint.

Dunman continued to secure both offensive and defensive boards, outrebounding their opponents and converting underbasket shots routinely. As a result they took a 43-point, half-time lead going into the break.

In the second half, Herman Ong (#8) of Tampines managed to finish strong against his defenders in the key to put in two more points, thereafter cutting more often into the paint to earn free-throws. He totalled four points in total for his team.

Dunman continued to make their jumpers count, running fast breaks at every opportunity and used quick drives to get past their opponents.

In a final attempt to add in points for Tampines, Chng Wee Chong (#4) drove straight to the basket but chose to set up his teammate Bryan (#13) for an underbasket shot. However, he missed and this marked the end of the game, with Dunman having a big 81–6 win over Tampines.

Dunman captain Tin Liang (#4) said, “There’s still room for improvement. It’s not our best performance. We are aiming for national champions this season.”

Tampines captain Herman (#8) said, “Generally disappointed about this game. I feel we didn’t focus much both defensively and offensively, and gave them a lot of turnovers. Our rebounding could be better, and we could have more communication.”
