Anglican High School, Tuesday, March 4, 2014 — Dunman Secondary made it two out of two for both the Boys and Girls teams with an 89–71 win over Anglican High in the final of the East Zone B Division Boys Basketball Championship. Shawn Toh (AHS #6) led all scorers with 24 points, while Darren Ng (Dunman #6) paced a balanced Dunman scoring attack with 15 points.

Dunman have won three consecutive zonal titles since 2012 and they have also achieved the Boys and Girls Double in that same period.

Dunman started the game on a 7–0 run, mainly scoring on their fast breaks. Defensively, they were watertight. They forced Anglican High into taking only three-point attempts, which they failed to convert. However, Anglican High answered with a 7–0 run of their own and trimmed the Dunman lead to two at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter saw the Anglican High offence score in spurts. Only Shawn (AHS #6) and Randall (AHS #11) were able to find the basket among the Anglican High starters. Dunman was able to punish the lax Anglican High man-to-man defence by making their three-pointers. Behind their balanced scoring from multiple players, Dunman were able to open up a 13-point lead at half-time.

Dunman hit a rough offensive patch in the third quarter, mostly due to bad shot selection. Anglican High took advantage of this to trim the deficit to nine points. They were led by the scoring of Li Chuan (#10), as he dropped 10 points in the period to aid his team.

Turnovers saw Anglican High give the game away to Dunman in the final quarter. Each time they brought the ball up court, they would allow Dunman player to take it away for an open layup at the other end.

Dunman were able to extend the lead to 20 points and seal the game with four minutes remaining. They were able to send in their reserves to end the game for them, cruising to a 89–71 in the end. This was their third consecutive zonal title after dethroning Anglican High in 2012.

Dunman captain, Choo Tin Liang (#4), said “We are very happy to have clinched the zonal championship. The Boys and Girls teams brought glory to the school by achieving the double. I thought our match was not good enough and we could have done better. We need to train harder and work together. We hope to be national champions this year.”
