Republic Polytechnic, Monday, March 31, 2014 — Nanyang Girls’ High School sent Tanjong Katong Secondary School tumbling out with a 39–31 win in the National B Division Girls Netball Championship.
Nanyang Girls’ displayed a quick and efficient offence, as they utilised precise passes to advance the ball towards the goal circle. On the other hand, Tanjong Katong focused on lobbing long passes to their tall Goal Shooter, Najihah.
Amanda Quek (Nanyang GS/GA) converted most of her shots when presented with the opportunity. Her shooting contributed to the 18–16 lead that Nanyang Girls’ held at half time.
Tanjong Katong started to let the game slip away in the third quarter. Their players were not protecting the ball well as they conceded turnovers on errant passes. Nanyang capitalised by scoring on the ensuing possessions.
With Tanjong Katong playing catch up in the final quarter, Nanyang Girls’ did well to contain them. They forced Tanjong Katong into attempting risky passes, which backfired and Nanyang Girls’ came away with the 39–31 win in the end.
Nanyang Girls’ co-captain, Anthea Foong, said, “I am very proud of the team. We were composed today and our defenders did well. We hope to try and get National Champions this year.”
Nanyang Girls’ co-captain, Amanda Quek, added, “We were supporting each other on the court, which helped with our teamwork. Our shooters also shot the ball well today, and that contributed to the win.”
