Republic Polytechnic, Wednesday, May 21, 2014 — Temasek Junior College (TJC) defeated Raffles Institution (RI) 3–2 in the group stage of the National A Division Floorball Championship but it did not stop RI from qualifying for the semi-finals.

RI scored first in the first period. Any shots made by TJC were saved by the RI goal keeper as the score stayed at 1–0.

The second period saw multiple shot attempts by both teams, but they were unable to score. A foul by Andrew Joshua Koh (RI #7) resulted in a power play situation, with RI down a player. TJC attempted more shots but to no avail as RI lasted through the power play and regained full strength.

Fouls by Zhang Zhen Ming (RI #9) and Muhammad Amirul Afiq (RI #45) saw RI down by two players to give TJC a power-play advantage. RI’s strong defence lasted through the power play without allowing TJC to score. However, TJC finally scored a goal right after the power play had ended to tie it up 1–1.

Soon after the third period began, TJC were down a player in a power-play situation. RI were able to score a goal to take a 2–1 lead. TJC responded with a goal a few minutes later to tie the game at two apiece. With minutes to go, TJC were awarded a penalty and Tung Hao Yuan (TJC #33) scored the penalty to seal TJC’s 3–2 victory.

TJC Captain, Gavin Ng (#14), said, “It was a very exciting and tough game. It was exhilarating. We played well and it was a good win.”
