ActiveSG will bringing the second of a series of Sports Festivals to Woodlands Sports Centre, and it will be held in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the 2014 Singapore Youth Olympic Festival.
ActiveSG is a national movement helmed by Sport Singapore (SportSG). It seeks to create a sporting environment for all Singaporeans and serves to provide a wide variety of affordable sports programmes for everyone. It is one of the recommendations of Vision 2030.
The ActiveSG Sports Festival will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Themed “Sports, Youth & Culture”, the Sports Festival will include various sports try-outs such as free-to-play futsal, football and ultimate frisbee games. Families can also participate in a treasure hunt and take part in mini dragon float races at the pool. In conjunction with the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, there will also be tea and dumpling appreciation activities for members of the public.
Members of the public will also be able to sign up for the free ActiveSG membership. The membership is valid for life and it is open to all Singaporeans and permanent residents.
Admission to the gym and swimming pool facilities will be free through the day.
The opening ceremony of the 2014 Singapore Youth Olympic Festival (SYOF) will also be held at the same time. Originally conceived to celebrate the anniversary of the inaugural Singapore Youth Olympic Games, the SYOF provides a platform for youths, aged 18 and below, to showcase their sporting talents. The SYOF is into its third edition and will encompass six sports. It will be held from May 31 to June 6. The SYOF Taekwondo competition will be held right after the opening ceremony, from 2-6 p.m.
