Republic Polytechnic, Tuesday, May 27, 2014 — Five goals in the second period were enough for Yishun Junior College to beat Hwa Chong Institution 5–0 in the semi-final of the National A Division Girls Floorball Championship. Ericia Chan (YJC #10) and Moo Hui Ming (YJC #17) both scored two goals apiece to lead their team in scoring.

The first period saw YJC create a lot of opportunities, but they were unable to convert. Ericia Chan (YJC #10) made a couple of good runs down the left wing, as her play was one of the main focal points of YJC’s offence. Tiffany Leung (HCI #77) had an opportunity to score on a breakaway attempt, but her shot flew wide of the goal.

The floodgates opened for YJC in the second period. Moo Hui Ming (YJC #17) struck first, scoring after a nice cross from the right wing by her teammate. Ericia Chan (YJC #10) then scored the second goal shortly after, slotting in the rebound after a save by the HCI keeper. Liu Shao Lun (YJC #7) scored the third on a breakaway attempt. Hui Ming (YJC #17) and Ericia (YJC #10) then scored their second goals towards the end of the period.

The final period was a more even affair, as HCI’s defence finally started to settle down. HCI were unable to form any sort of attack throughout the game, as the YJC defence did well to shut them down. In the end, YJC were able to beat HCI 5–0, sending them into the final. They will face Meridian Junior College in the final on Thursday, May 29, at Bedok Sports Hall.

YJC captain, Siti Muliyanti (#26), said, “The match was really intense, but we kept our cool. Also, we were able to play to our tempo. This led us to the win.”

YJC vice-captain, Daphne Ong (#21), said, “We did not start off well, hence we were tied 0-0 after the first period. However, we came back and fought hard in the second period. That was how we got the win.”
