Singapore Basketball Centre, Tuesday, July 8, 2014 — Bowen Secondary (BWS) defeated Woodlands Ring Secondary (WRS) 47–13 in the first round of the North Zone C Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.
Bowen Secondary topped the group with four straight wins, while Woodlands Ring have a 1–2 win-loss record.
Lee Yao Hong (BWS #9) led all scorers with 17 points, while vice-captain, Teng Wei Jie (BWS #5) had 10 points.
Bowen were relatively strong on both ends. They took the lead through all four quarters. Woodlands Ring had a hard time breaking through Bowen’s defence. Nonetheless, despite lacking behind, Woodlands Ring did not gave up and fought till the last second.
Yao Hong (BWS #9) had an outstanding performance for his team, scoring multiple fast break layups. He had many accurate shots which wow-ed their coaches as well as spectators.
Woodlands Ring did not gave up despite multiple turnovers, as they fought for every ball they lose. WRS (#14) netted a few successful attempts under-basket.
Bowen sealed their fourth straight victory with the 47–13 win, topping Group A.
Top scorer, Lee Yao Hong (BWS #9) commented, “The game was intense. The team was playing very well. I think my performance is still not up to my standard. I never expected myself to be the top scorer. I just happened to be on form today. I hope we can improve more on our defence and offence in the second round.”
Woodlands Ring will next play Northbrooks Secondary on Thursday, July 10, at the Singapore Basketball Centre. Bowen have played all their games.
