PESEB, Friday, August 15, 2014 — Damai Secondary beat Greenridge Secondary 12–5 in the final to clinch the National C Division Rugby Bowl Championship.

Muhammad Aizuddin (Greenridge #7) started the game off well, creating a lot of space for his team early on. Greenridge were able to capitalise on the size of their forward pack early to push. Possession was fairly even between both teams as they both found it hard to break through the defensive lines respectively.

Muhammad Haikel (Damai #9) put his team in a good position after a good run down the left wing, but Greenridge were able to shut down that advance. Syafiq B Safawi (Greenridge #15) then gave his team a sliver of hope to score, but Damai responded well to neutralise the threat.

Muhammad Zhafir (Damai #11) scored Damai’s first try in spectacular fashion, breaking a few tackles before hurdling over the final defender to score. The try was converted to give Damai a 7–0 lead at the half-time break.

The second half saw Greenridge take the initiative early on. Syafiq B Safawi (Greenridge #15) found an open gap and broke through to score a try. Unfortunately, Brendan Raj (Greenridge #14) could not make the conversion and the score remained at 12–0.

Damai continued to use their forward pack to slowly advance the ball into Greenridge territory. This continue for two fruitless drives, which ended in Greenridge kicking the ball into the clear.

Mark David Cook (Damai #14) created an opening for Damai with a strong run down the left wing. He could have scored the try if not for the timely intervention of Brendan Raj (Greenridge #14). However, Damai took advantage of the position to set up Jalkern Tan (Damai #12) for the try to make it 5–12.

Damai continued to dominate possession for most of the game from that point on. In the waning moments of the game, Greenridge had a couple of opportunities to score. Damai did well to snuff out any chance Greenridge had, eventually taking the game 12–5.

Damai captain, Boo Han Wei (#8), said, “It was a really good game for us. Even when Greenridge scored the try in the second half, I felt that we could still do it. We really applied what we learnt in training into the game. I would like to thank Coach Bryan, Coach Muhammad and our former coach, Coach Adin. He laid the foundations for our success today.”
