Bedok Sports Hall, Wednesday, March 11, 2009 – Duman Secondary fought off a spirited Tanjong Katong Secondary to edge them out 21-19 to seal the C Division East Zone Netball Championship title.
It was a close and nervy affair and both teams were evenly matched in the first quarter. They kept up with each other, with scoring at both ends at regular intervals. It was no surprise that both team ended the quarter on level terms and this set the tone for the rest of the match.
Dunman had a better share of the possession in the second quarter but still they had to labor hard to work out an advantage. Every time they pulled ahead by a single point, TKSS would coming biting back at their heels. Unforced errors by Dunman also nearly saw them concede their lead. They were fortunate to have been able to enter the break with a single point lead.
TKSS fought back in the third quarter, they quickly wiped off the deficit and it was all square once again. A missed shot by the Dunman Goal Shooter allowed the TKSS Goal Keeper to grab the rebound and she quickly relayed the ball to their shooter who nailed it to allow them to grab the lead. The TKSS team then solidified their with a 2 point advantage and they prevented the Dunman team from coming close till the end of the quarter.
With a 2 point advantage, all TKSS had to do was to hold their nerves and keep Dunman at bay. However, after being given the hair dryer treatment by their coach, Dunman team was fired up to fight back. They did so with tight defensive strategy. Slowly but surely, they pulled back level with TKSS. They then overtook TKSS and took control of the game with the clock winding down. TKSS tried their best to mount a final challenge but it was too late and Dunman emerged winners in a really close encounter.
