National University of Singapore, Friday, January 23, 2015 — Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) defeated Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) 3–0 in the final of the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Volleyball Championship to regain their title which they lost to Nanyang Technological University (NTU) last year.

SIM easily clinched the first set, holding NYP to only eight points. In the second set, poorer execution allowed NYP to tie the game at 23 apiece, but SIM managed to pull away with the final two points to clinch the set.

The final set belonged to SIM, as spikes from Adelina Lam (#11) and Lim Chien Wen (#15) helped close out the victory and complete a flawless IVP season.

“It didn’t feel good when we lost the championship last year, so this year we played our best to get it back,” said Ang Qi Hui (#7).

The SIM captain added, “We started proper training only one month before IVP, but thankfully, our main players are the same. I think we didn’t play too well in the preliminaries, but in the semi-final and final, we did well, so we’re very happy.”

In the 3rd/4th playoff match, unfortunate mistakes cost National University of Singapore (NUS) their podium finish, allowing Temasek Polytechnic (TP) to get away with a 3–1 victory.

Kong Xin Ni (#5) propelled NUS to an easy first set win, but they could not maintain their momentum in the second set, allowing TP to tie the match at one set apiece.

In the crucial third set, NUS continued to fumble and concede points through unforced mistakes. A prompt time-out allowed NUS to regroup, as Ryshire Wu (#2) and Tay Yu Zhen (#3) roofed several TP spikes to score seven straight points to trail 17–23. Unfortunately, NYP answered with two quick spikes to clinch the set.

The final set belonged to TP as they held on to their early lead to close out the victory.
