Serangoon Stadium, Wednesday, April 15, 2015 — Siglap Secondary (SSS) triumphed 2–0 over Woodlands Secondary (WSS) to clinch third in the National B Division Girls’ Football Championship.

Barely two minutes into the game, Nur Danisyah (#7) gave Siglap the lead with a left-footed shot around Woodlands goalkeeper, T Mahalashmi (#20).

This was closely followed with a second off a short corner. Nurul Syahidah (#8) crossed the ball into the penalty box for an easy header in for Nur Danisyah (#7).

Nur Danisyah continued to wreck havoc in Woodlands’ penalty box even after her two goals. Her ability to navigate through two or three defenders posed a great threat to Woodlands. However, she was closely marked by Woodlands defenders after her two goals. This subdued her momentarily.

Overall, Siglap had a better showing of chemistry. They supported and covered for each other throughout, stringing short passes across the midfield easily.

Wildani Nabilah (#7) displayed impressive dribbling, bringing the ball down effectively for Woodlands. However, Siglap were able to contain most of the play in Woodlands’ half. Their relentless attacks forced Woodlands defenders to retreat into the six-yard box. Moreover, with Siglap’s backline pushing up high to the midfield, Woodlands struggled to bring the ball out of their half to counter-attack.

Early into the second half, Woodlands once again came under threat. Nur Danisyah (#7) of Siglap continued to create chances for her teammates and shooting when given space. Woodlands goalkeeper, T Mahalashmi (#20), pulled off two superb saves at point-blank to deny Nur Danisyah (#7) and Nurul Asyiqin (#17) the third goal.

Woodlands’ play picked up momentum after the first few minutes, although they were still forced to counter-attack most of the time.

Both teams were tired out midway into the half. Passes were less accurate and players were clustered together in the midfield. Despite their best efforts, Woodlands were unable to break through the Siglap defence for a goal as their attackers tired out. As a result, the match concluded in a 2–0 victory for Siglap and Woodlands settled for fourth place.

When asked about her team’s performance, Woodlands captain, Nurul Atifah Noraizan (#10), said, “It went quite well. We actually managed to persevere throughout the game even though we were losing in the first half. But, we actually felt like we did well throughout the game. We never gave up. So, I’m actually proud of my teammates.”

In particular, she commended her goalkeeper, T Mahalashmi (#20), for a job well done.

“The team did well. They motivated me. Even though we lost to Queensway and Bowen, we stayed as a team. Our opponents did well too,” said Siglap captain, Nur Fazlin (#10).

This is their seventh consecutive year with at least a top four finish. This is Woodlands’ first top four finish since 2013. They were the national champions in 2012, and second in 2013.
