Bukit Gombak Stadium, Thursday, April 16, 2015 — In just 60 seconds, Amirah Aljunied (#117) of CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) topped the field to clinch her first B Division girls’ 400m title at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.
The Secondary 4 student’s result is an improvement on her second-placed finish in last year’s edition, where she clocked a timing of 1:01.26.
“I’m very very happy,” said Aljunied. “I didn’t really expect it, because there were many other really strong competitors, and I’m just really happy that I came in first.”
“My coach focused a lot on my training this year and I trained a lot more,” she added.
Her finish, however, was just 0.2 seconds shy of her personal best of 59.80 seconds, which was set during the semi-final.
Singapore Sports School’s Celeste Goh (#92) took home the silver medal in 1:00.82, while Aljunied’s teammate, Pebbles Lee (#125), bagged the bronze medal with a timing of 1:02.96.
The B Division girls’ 400m record is 57.11s and it was set by Singapore Sports School alumna, T Piriyah, in 2008.
