Bukit Gombak Stadium, Friday, April 17, 2015 — Lynette Lim (#131) of Victoria Junior College jumped a distance of 5.43 metres to defend her A Division girls’ long jump title and at the same time, set a new meet record at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.
“I’m very happy after all the years of training,” said Lynette, who turns 18 on November 15. “I thought I couldn’t improve in long jump after last year, but eventually, I did improve by quite a lot.”
She added, “I would like to thank my coach and teachers in charge for helping my manage my injuries, parents and friends for supporting me throughout this entire season.”
Lynette broke the previous record of 5.40m, set in 1991 by VJC alumna Lynette Chen, on her fourth attempt of the competition.
“Records are meant to be broken and that’s the way it should be,” said the older Lynette, 42, who was present to watch the record-breaking feat. “We’ve got quite a number of good jumpers coming up, so it should be quite exciting in the next few years.”
“I’m obviously biased towards the school, so if there was anybody, I would be rooting for any of the VJC jumpers. And this is actually very meaningful to me, to be around, when the record is broken. It’s a special moment for me,” she added.
Vivian Ho (#14) of Singapore Sports School took home the silver medal with a distance of 5.14m and the bronze medal went to Bernadette Taim (#174) of Hwa Chong Institution with a 4.96m attempt.
