Catholic High trump Maris Stella High on Day 2 of B Division basketball nationals

Jurong West Sports Hall, Wednesday, 25 Mar, 2009 – Catholic High captain Jabez Su poured in 33 points in an assured performance to lead his team to an 84-57 win over an energetic Maris Stella High.

Maris Stella had started the game with a 7-3 lead, surprising with a quick start. Catholic High came roaring back, however, to clinch the first quarter 23-16. Jabez scored 12 of his team’s points in the first period alone, outpacing the Marist defence frequently to score on fast breaks.

The second quarter saw more of the same as Catholic High increased their lead to 45-27 at the half. Point guard Dominic Lim was on fire for 7 of his 11 point in that quarter alone.

The Marists team was not prepared to roll over though. Led by their telepathic twins Jervin (#10) and Shervin (#11), they surged back in the third quarter to narrow the gap to 40-57. The pair amazingly accounted for 26 of their team’s eventual 57 points.

This momentum was carried to the early part of the fourth quarter when Marists reduced the gap to 13 points. But Jabez chose this moment to shine when he connected with three 3-pointers and teammate Wong Kam Seng added two more from long range to extend the Catholic High lead.

Catholic High eventually won the game 84-57.
