Bukit Gombak Stadium, Wednesday, April 20, 2015 — Amirah Aljunied of CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) clinched the gold medal with a 25.94-second effort in the B Division girls’ 200m at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.
This victory comes after her win in the 400m race last week.
The 16-year-old’s result is an improvement to that of last year, when she finished in third place with a time of 26.92s.
“I’m happy with the time and the position, even though it’s not a personal best,” said Amirah. Her performance was just 0.02s shy of her personal best. “But it’s good enough that I managed to run under 26 seconds.”
“I still have the relays left. Our strongest competitors would be Singapore Sports School and Nanyang Girls’ High,” she added.
In second place and clocking a time of 26.39s was C Division meet record holder, Ismi Zakiah of Singapore Sports School. Her teammate Nurul Syarah bagged the bronze with 26.51s.
The hand-timed record of 25.50s was set by CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent alumna, Mona Kunalan, in 1987. Singapore Sports School runner, Kugapriya D/O Chandran, holds the electronically-timed record of 25.51s that was set just last year.
