Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Wednesday, April 22, 2015 — Haikal Ismail of Millennia Institute (MI) claimed the 100m title for the first time at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships. He was fourth in 2012 but could not participate last year due to an injury.
Haikal clocked a time of 11.01 seconds. He had also clinched the gold medal in the 200m final this year.
Chin Yew Chung of Raffles Institution finished second with a time of 11.18s, while Timothy Ong of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) clinched the bronze in 11.27s.
“It was a good race. I carried out my race plan well. My coach asked me to start fast and I (did) start fast. I just kept on going hard for the last 50m. It has been a good journey for me since this is my last nationals. I got a double gold for 100m and 200m,” said Haikal.
Haikal has been participating in track competitions since Primary Four. Even though he did not manage to attain a sub-11s timing, this is a personal best. It improved on his previous PB set in the semi-finals by 0.01s.
Donovan Chan, a Hwa Chong Institution alumnus, still holds the record time of 10.70s which he set in 2012.
