CHIJ Toa Payoh Secondary, Thursday, May 7, 2015 — Yishun Junior College (YJC) beat Innova Junior College (IJC) 55–21 in the National A Division Girls’ Netball Championship.
With this win, YJC end their season with a 1–3 win–loss record while IJC have lost all their four games. Both teams did not manage to qualify for the second round.
Both sides appeared to be evenly-matched in the first few minutes of opening quarter. YJC’s shooters were composed in taking shots and had good coordination within the circle, which helped contribute to their lead.
On the other hand, IJC had opportunities to reduce the deficit but could not convert their attempts. YJC maintained their composure and worked on their offense to race to a 25–10 lead to end the first half.
In the third quarter, IJC were more coordinated in their play and were diligent on defence. They were able to contain YJC’s offence and there was several good turnovers. Hence, IJC managed to match YJC’s scoring for the quarter. However, YJC still led 33–18 at the end of the third quarter.
The final quarter saw YJC back on court to dominate with their strong offensive plays, scoring relentlessly. IJC had no answer for YJC as the latter extended their lead to seal their 55–21 victory.
“I feel that our team has worked well together and we are proud to have won. The season was not what we expected it to be, but we ended it off on a good note,” said YJC captain, Naseeha Begum.
IJC captain, Su Teng, said, “I think they did a good job. Some of the team members lack the experience but they worked very hard and improved.”
