OCBC Arena, Thursday, June 11, 2015 — Singapore beat Cambodia 83–67 in their third game of the basketball competition at the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, Ng Hanbin and Larry Liew were joint-top scorers with 15 points each. The team now hold a 3–0 win-loss record.
Despite key player Wong Wei Long being absent from the game due to an eye injury, Singapore were still able to play as well.
In the first half, Singapore prevented their opponents’ easy drives or shots. However, Cambodia were able to shoot from the three-point line, earning most of their points there. Fortunately, sterling play and three three-pointers from Ng Hanbin (#17) gave Singapore a 52–34 lead at the end of the half.
The second half saw more strong play from Singapore, with the Cambodians trying to keep pace with their three-pointers. However, the gap was just too wide and Singapore eventually clinched an 83-67 victory.
“If Wei Long can’t play, he really can’t play. We still need to stay positive and continue playing,” said Coach Neo when asked about Wei Long’s absence.
Hanbin (#17) said, “We have to see films on Thailand’s past games – see what they can do and play hard. Most importantly, we have to play defense. Since we played with Thailand before, we’ve got to do the little things like setting screens, play hard on defense and rebounding to be able to win the game.”
Singapore will play second-seeded Thailand tomorrow, 8pm at the OCBC Arena.
