OCBC Aquatic Centre, Friday, June 12, 2015 — Favourites Singapore put on an outstanding performance against Malaysia to topple them 21–3 in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games women’s water polo tournament.
“To win 21–3 is really quite a feat and I think my team has played really well in this match, especially all the penalties that have been taken by all my teammates,” commented Denise Chen (#10), who scored four goals in the match.
It was Singapore’s second win in a row after a 7–4 win over Indonesia in their opening game.
The girls were undeterred by a slightly slow start, with Malaysia scoring the opening goal of the match. They kept to their game plan and led by four goals after the first quarter.
Singapore went hard on the offensive in the second quarter, keeping the Malaysians scoreless to lead by 10 goals (11–1) at the close of the first half.
The second half saw Singapore limit Malaysia to just two goals as they added another 10 more to finish off with the 21–3 win.
Singapore will play Philippines next on June 12, at 4pm.
