VJC Field, Thursday, April 2, 2009 – Nanyang Junior College beat Dunman High School 2-0 for their second win of the A Division Football Championship.
Dunman High almost scored a shock opening goal in the first half when the Nanyang keeper let the ball bounce once too many times in his penalty box. In the scramble, the ball bounced out nicely for Yu Hong (DHS, #10) but he couldn’t put it away into an open goal.
Nanyang JC survived that minor scare to eventually score their one and only goal in the first half when Brian Ng, (NYJC, #19), showing some nice touches in the middle of the park, presented teammate Cheng Weng (#9) with a one-on-one opportunity with an incisive through pass. Dunman High keeper Joshua Yow saved the first attempt but the rebound fell to Daniel Chan who buried the ball despite the presence of a Dunman High player on the line.
An own goal in the second half by Dunman High eventually gave Nanyang a 2-0 win.
Nanyang had earlier beaten Anderson Junior College 2-1 in their opening game. They next face Anglo-Chinese Junior College on Tuesday, April 7 at the NJC field. Game time is 4.45pm.
Cheng Weng (NYJC, #9) is put through on goal but his attempt is foiled by Dunman High keeper Joshua Yow and his defender. The rebound however was swept home by Daniel Chan. (Photo 2 © Les Tan/Red Sports)

That’s odd. Why did the ref say 1-0 then? I asked him after the game because I wanted to know the timing of the first goal. Are you from NYJC?
mistake. it was 2-0. the 2nd goal was an own goal.
I asked the referee. He told me 1-0.
