Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 — Woodlands Ring Secondary (WRS) defeated Montfort Secondary (MSS) 30-14 in the first round of the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Koh Swee Yang (#14) led Woodlands Ring to victory with 10 points while Montfort’s Laxamana Gio David (#11) had a team high of 10 points as well.

Woodlands Ring were dominant from the start as they displayed both strong defence and offence. Lee Jiajie (WRSS #7) highlighted the first quarter with a 3-pointer to help his team extend their lead.

Montfort struggled to find their momentum and were unable to score initially until Laxamana (MSS #11) scored Montfort’s only basket towards the end of the quarter to trail 2-11.

Woodlands Ring continued to pour in the points in both the second and third quarter while Montfort found themselves unable to score a point in the third quarter due to good defending and rebounding by Woodlands Ring.

Despite the score difference, Montfort persevered and had their best scoring quarter in the fourth with Laxamana (MSS #11) scoring most of the points.

Woodlands Ring team captain, Koh Swee Yang (#14), said, “I think we improved. Our chemistry needs to be better. If we live up to our potential and improve communication we can score more and win more.”

Woodlands Ring are aiming to finish in the top four in the North Zone.
