OCBC Arena, Friday, January 22, 2016 — National Junior College (NJC) beat Bukit Merah Secondary (BM) 38-7 to win their second match of the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship.
NJC’s Nicole Lee (#6) led all scorers with seven points while Jeslyn Ho (#12) from Bukit Merah had a team high of four points.
The match was a close one initially. NJC made many shot attempts while Bukit Merah drove in repeatedly for the layup. A low-scoring first quarter ended with NJC leading 7-4.
Bukit Merah’s Jeslyn (#12) started the second quarter with a shot to reduce the deficit to one point at 6-7. Bukit Merah however could not score any baskets after that due to NJC’S full court press.
NJC made many steals and shots from outside the paint to establish an 11-point lead at 17-6 at half time.
From then, it was a one-sided game as NJC started to dominate, outscoring Bukit Merah 28-1 over the final two quarters to win 38-7.
NJC’s captain said, “I think we could have played a lot better. We missed a lot of shots and rushed the offense.”
NJC next face Guangyang Secondary while Bukit Merah will go up against Raffles Girls’ School.
