NUS Track, Wednesday, February 3, 2016 — A turn of events in the 800m leg of the Mixed Medley Relay pushed Kent Ridge Hall into the lead which they maintained to the finish, earning them the gold with a timing of 6:40.57, five seconds faster than first runner-up Temasek Hall in the NUS Inter-Hall Games.

Temasek Hall were initially in the lead, which they held for the 100m, 200m, and 400m legs of the relay. They held the lead until the first round of the women’s 800m when Janielle Lim from Kent Ridge closed the gap between her and Leia from Temasek Hall.

A surge from Janielle in the last stretch of the second round allowed her to overtake Leia, giving Kent Ridge the lead coming into the first leg of the men’s 800m.

Jeevaneesh of Kent Ridge maintained the lead to the end, earning his Hall a win in the Medley Race Relay.

Janielle of Kent Ridge said, “Nicole (from Kent Ridge) got overtaken at the home stretch so Eusoff Hall had a small lead. Temasek went off really quickly, and even though I made sure to keep a distance from them, I was still going too fast for my first lap.

“I thought that I wouldn’t be able to overtake the Temasek runner (Leia) but she tired out in the last 300m so I managed to overtake her in the last 100m.”

Janielle added, “It was a fun but quite scary race as well! I wouldn’t say it was the best I could do, but I’m generally grateful that I didn’t do too badly. I think most of my teammates found it quite a good race as well.”

With their gold in the Medley, this gave Kent Ridge a total of three wins out of the five events in the road relays for a total score of 35, with six IHG points awarded.
