Clementi Sports Complex, Monday, February 15, 2016 — New Town Secondary (NTS) beat Crest Secondary (CS) 50-2 in the West Zone B Division Basketball Championship.
This is the second last game of the season for both teams as they did not qualify for Round 2.
New Town’s Chevonne (#5) scored a game high of 13 points while Crest’s Anggun Sulastri (#9) scored her team’s only two points.
Both teams seemed to be on equal footing from the start as they managed to intercept quite a few passes from each other. This resulted in neither team scoring a single point in the first 5 minutes.
Despite New Town being able to catch a few defensive rebounds, Crest’s tight man-to-man defense made sure that New Town did not score many. The 1st quarter ended with New Town leading 6-0.
The 2nd quarter saw New Town switching to a half court press which allowed them to intercept quite a lot of Crest’s passes. They were quickly able to score quite a few fast breaks and pulled away to lead 16-0 at half time.
The 3rd quarter saw Crest turning up a notch on their defense as they became more aggressive. They also managed to get quite a lot of defensive rebounds. This in turn led to Crest’s Anggun Sulastri (#9) scoring the team first and only basket in the 3rd quarter.
However, Crest’s inability to convert most of the defensive rebounds into points allowed New Town to maintain a large lead and end the 3rd quarter leading 28-2.
Despite Crest’s continued aggressiveness into the 4th quarter, New Town were able to swing the ball around, drive in and score a few lay ups. New Town also tightened their defense to catch a lot of defensive rebounds and intercept a lot of passes to wrap up the win.
New Town captain, Felicia Wong (#13), said, “We really tried our best and we really put in our heart to give our best effort. We will put in 200% in our next game since it’s our last game and it is also the last time that we can play together as a team in a real tournament.”
