Hougang Sports Hall, Wednesday, March 9, 2016 – Both Bukit Merah Secondary (BMS) and East Spring Secondary (ESS) settled for an 8-8 draw in a high intensity clash in the 2nd round of the National B Division Floorball Championship. Both teams now have one win and one draw in the 2nd round.
Safiuddin B Salleh (BMS #20) was the top scorer with a hat-trick while teammate Soh Ming Sheng (#6) chipped in two goals for Bukit Merah.
On the other hand, East Spring had Muhammad Nadim B Miskam (#6), Alradon Seah (#7), Lee Jian Hao (#17) and Muhammad Isyraq B Rosli (#40) all scoring two goals apiece.
Both teams came right out of the gates looking to push the pace and East Spring drew first blood with a goal from Lee Jian Hao (#17) just 1:37 into the game. Bukit Merah soon fired back, equalising just 20 seconds later with a goal by Safiuddin B Salleh (#20). Both teams continued to exchange blows and the first period saw East Spring edging it 4-3.
The 2nd period saw Alradon Seah (#7) score two unanswered goals in just 2:39 to give East Spring a 5-3 lead.
At the 12:20 mark, East Spring found themselves a man down as Alradon Seah (#7) was slapped with a 2-minute penalty. Bukit Merah took advantage to cut the deficit to 4-5 on a goal by Muhammad Iman Zulhakim (#16). At the end of the period, East Spring managed to cling onto a slight 6-5 advantage.
The one-goal advantage held by East Spring soon vaporised just 1:30 into the final period, as Safiuddin B Salleh (#20) equalised for Bukit Merah. Bukit Merah then proceeded to grab an 8-6 advantage with just 3:39 left in the match thanks to goals from Safiuddin B Salleh (#20) and Soh Ming Sheng (#6).
However, defensive lapses cost Bukit Merah the victory, as they allowed two quickfire goals by East Spring in the last 38 seconds of the match for an 8-8 stalemate at the final whistle.
Bukit Merah will next play Catholic High School while East Spring will next face Northland Secondary. Both games will be held on 21 March at Hougang Sports Hall.
