Clementi Sports Hall, Tuesday, April 5, 2016 — Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (SCGS) saw off North Vista Secondary 50-39 to book a spot in the semi-finals of the National B Division Basketball Championship. This was the second win for SCGS in Round 2 after a previous victory over Deyi.
For North Vista, this was their second loss in Round 2 after a defeat by Nanyang Girls’ High, and they are out of contention for the semi-finals.
Patricia Orenza (SCGS #7) had a game high of 17 points, including four 3-pointers. Lydia Ang (NV #7) led North Vista with 15 points.
Aisling Lum (SCGS #9) also hit double digits with 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
SCGS were consistent, outscoring North Vista in three out of the four quarters.
SCGS took the opening two quarters and built a 27-14 lead by half time, with Shannon Tiong (SCGS #15) dominating the paint with her height.
North Vista had their best quarter in the third, as they put together 17 points, with Lydia Ang (NV #7) accounting for seven of those, as North Vista cut the deficit to eight points (31-39) heading into the fourth.
However, SCGS outplayed them 11-8 in the final quarter and eventually walked away with the 50-39 win.
Captain Phoebe Kee (SCGS #12) said, “I am very happy that we all worked well together today and the teamwork was solid. This is a comeback from the last game as we did not play very well previously. We were up against some tough opponents today, but I felt we all put in a lot of effort and gave our best.”
SCGS will next face off with Nanyang Girls’ High in a top of the table clash on April 7 at Clementi Sports Hall.
