Bedok Sports Hall, Wednesday, April 15, 2009 - North Zone champions, the Singapore Sports School, defeated South Zone champions Raffles Girls' School 33-27 in the semi-finals to qualify for the final of the Natioanl C Division Netball Championship.
The Singapore Sports School played their trademark aggressive game of fast, long passes but Raffles were not intimidated and did not allow their opponents to pull ahead too far. Sports School however had the edge in stamina to end the first quarter leading 8-5.
The energy of the game increased greatly in the second quarter with many contact and obstruction fouls called. Raffles pulled level with Sports School at one stage in the second and finished the first half just trailing by one at 15-16.
In the third quarter, both teams traded points but fatigue soon told on the RGS team and Sports School took advantage to establish a five-point, 26-21 lead at the end of the third.
While Raffles managed to lead at one point in the final quarter, tiredness saw them yield to Sports School who closed out the game 33-27 winners.
The Singapore Sports School play Methodist Girls’ School in the championship final while Raffles Girls’ School will compete with Ang Mo Kio Secondary for third place.
