Bishan Stadium, Monday, 24 April, 2017 — After a stunning leap in the long jump Friday that ranked her the fifth-best female Singaporean, Dunman High School’s Lim En Ning doubled her gold medal haul at the 58th National Schools Track and Field Championships with a personal best in the high jump.
She cleared 1.57 metres on her second attempt, which improved on her previous personal best by 5cm — and she had only cleared 1.52m in training once before. Singapore Sports’ School’s Cherlin Sia claimed silver with 1.52m and Cedar Girls’ Secondary’s Yin Yichen the bronze with 1.50m.
“This was more shocking for me,” said En Ning. “My expectations were not very high coming into this event. It was important I kept calm, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to perform my best.”
En Ning cracked Tia Rozario’s grip on the long run divisional schoolgirl records with a remarkable 5.79 metres to win the B girls long jump. She now owns the B girls and national schools records.
