Jalan Besar Stadium, Sunday, May 31, 2009 – With the first half almost over in the friendly game between North Queensland Fury FC and Tampines Rovers FC, the score is still 0-0.
But some won’t care too much about the football now because Robbie Fowler, who was hyped for the game tonight, didn’t even make the bench.
While there were various reports that Fowler was down with a groin injury and wasn’t going to play, organisers had denied this. His absence tonight was thus a surprise.
Those who bought tickets expecting to see Fowler play will be sorely disappointed. Tickets were priced at S$25 for grandstand seats, S$15 for gallery seats, and S$5 for children.
The game was organised by The Red Card Pte Ltd, headed by ex-Singapore international R. Sasikumar.
Fowler’s old team, Liverpool, are expected in July, and they will play the Singapore national team. With tickets priced even higher at S$88 and S$188, any no-shows by the main players will be bound to make even more fans unhappy.

Personally, I think this is a disgrace, but because it is a friendly game, there is very little the fans can do about it.
But let’s explore this: If Robbie Fowler is not a Fury player, how much would the tickets cost instead?
Probably, only a few hundred would watch. And you would have to price it at no more than $5.
