Toa Payoh Sports Complex, Wednesday, July 1, 2009 – After a H1N1 scare in the morning, Singapore’s table-tennis mixed team have started their Asian Youth Games campaign on a good note, winning their opening 2 matches against Philippines and Nepal 3-0.

In the opener against Philippines, Isabelle Li won her game against Ian Lariba 11-5, 11-2, 11-1. Clarence Chew then won his match against Val Stephen Jaca 11-3, 11-6, 11-6. The mixed doubles pair of Clarence and Isabelle won 3 straight sets against Val and Ian 11-3, 11-4, 11-3.

Straight after that, the duo played their next match against Nepal, and they swept to a 3-0 win once again.

Isabelle won in straight sets 11-2, 11-3, 12-10 against Elina Maharian. Clarence also won in 3 sets 11-9, 11-7 and 11-7 against Pradip Roka. The duo then maintained Singapore’s clean sheet by claiming the last sets 11-5, 11-4 and 11-4 against the Nepalese duo.

Their teammate Chau Hai Qing commented on their performance, “The two of them did well, we are proud of them.”
