Anglo-Chinese Junior College, Tuesday, July 21, 2009 – “Let’s go AC, let’s go! Let’s go AC, let’s go!”
Those were the cheers that filled the air at the ACJC rugby field last Tuesday, when the closely-fought Boys’ C Division 1st round rugby match between Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) and Raffles Institution was so suspenseful that if you were drinking a canned drink, you would have crushed it in frustration.
The first half was about to end, when Raffles found themselves only 5 steps away from a try. However, an ACS player amazingly got the ball back and scored a touchdown at the other end, bringing the first half to a dramatic close.
The second half started with ACS(BR) leading 5-0, and with never-ending Anglo-Chinese cheers resounding in the air, Raffles did not seem to stand a chance. It seemed like all hope was lost for them.
But Raffles pulled themselves back into the game when they scored a try to make it 5-5.
The final minutes of the match were nail-biting. The cheers from both camps were deafening, and everyone thought that both teams would be going home with a draw.
However, Raffles proved them wrong, and rose to the occasion to score another touchdown. To cap off the comeback, the RI player scored an excellent conversion to get that extra 2 points, and the match ended with RI winning 12-5.
To be honest, i think barker played a better game. They were just unlucky
