CCAB, Wednesday, April 16, 2008 – Hwa Chong Institution beat Raffles Institution by a narrow margin of 0.20 points to emerge as champions in the B Division Boys National Gymnastics (Trampoline) Championship. Hwa Chong Institution achieved a total score of 32.85 while Raffles Institution managed 32.65.

Lin Kwun Tong, a Secondary 3 student of the Raffles Trampoline Team, clinched the individual silver medal with a score of 8.25. He lost out on the gold to the Hwa Chong team captain, Akilan Shanmugaratnam by just a mere 0.1 points. Kwun Tong joined Gymnastics when he was in Secondary 1 and trains four times a week, each session ranging between three to five hours. He achieved commendable results last year by clinching two individual gold medals – one for the C Division Trampoline and one for the Parallel bars at the Artistic Gymnastics competition. This is his first year competing in the B Division and is expected to come back next year fighting even harder, eager to clinch the individual gold medal.

Whitley Secondary School came in third while Saint Joseph’s Institution came in fourth in the competition.
