CCAB, Friday, August 21, 2009 – Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) beat Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) 22-15 to capture their 13th consecutive C Division National Rugby Championship title.
The CCAB spectator stand was packed to overflowing to witness only the second all-ACS final in the last 13 years. ACS(BR) had lost their previous appearance in the final against their ACS(I) brothers.
The first try within 5 minutes was made by Howard Chan (#29) of ACS(BR) but ACS(I) came right back through and Geoffrey Lee (#5) who scored two consecutive tries to give their team a 10-5 lead.
ACS(BR) had a man-advantage when an ACS(I) player was yellow carded for dangerous player that left an ACS(BR) player injured.
Loh Eu Wen (#16) of ACS(I) extended the lead with another try in the second half. Ngen Ge Liang (#9) converted to make it a commanding 17-5 lead for ACS(I).
ACS (I) captain Samuel Teo then scored a brilliant individual try when he staved off the challenge of two defenders to make it 22-5.
But ACS(BR) were undeterred. They came right back with a Maurice Lim (#18) try and Darryl Chua (#26) then went over with another try to make it a 22-15 game.
Although ACS(I) lost another player, this time to a straight red card, ACS(BR) could not breach the ACS(I) line despite the good work of their captain Wesley.
